Today I want to discuss the issue of stinky body odour or excessive sweating, and how it all relates to your health and diet.
What Causes Body Odour and Excessive Sweating?
Excessive and/or smelly sweat is not only uncomfortable, it can be embarrassing. It’s hard to go out and have a good time when this is something you’re dealing with. There are many different deodorants that claim to fix the problem, but most are ineffective. In fact, many can actually be quite harsh on the body because they’re designed to block the eccrine sweat glands.
Here’s a bit of a newsflash for you: we are meant to sweat, and it happens for a reason!
Sweating is one of the ways the body clears what it doesn’t need. It’s a natural bodily process that supports detoxification. In fact, perspiration is one of the body’s 4 channels of elimination. The pores under your arms are some of the largest in the body… and they’re called “pores” because they are meant to “pour”!
Why Sweating Isn’t the Real Problem
What’s interesting is that sweat itself doesn’t actually smell. It’s nearly odourless. What creates the smell is the bacteria that break down the sweat on your skin. When you consume toxins, your body works to get rid of them through sweat, and other elimination pathways, like urination. So it’s important to understand the difference between sweat and stench.
To support the body properly, all channels of elimination need to be working well:
- Defecation – making sure your digestive system is moving properly. Things like enemas or colonics, and eating plenty of fresh fruits (especially apples) and vegetables that contain fibre can help support this.
- Urination – staying properly hydrated is key! Drinking 3-4 litres of fresh, clean water every day is a good guide. I believe 1 litre per 22kgs of body weight is optimal, especially if you’re dealing with strong body odour.
- Respiration – breathing deeply and doing regular breathing exercises is another great way to eliminate toxins. I have a downloadable audio of my 7 rounds of 7 in the Free Resources section of my website that I do at least three times every single day (more when I’m fasting!).
- Perspiration – opening up the skin and allowing the body to sweat freely. Things like skin brushing or scrubbing with guasha will encourage this so the body isn’t just relying on your armpits.
How to Reduce Body Odour from the Inside Out
So, if you are dealing with strong body odour, it’s often a sign the body needs a deeper clean-out. I’d recommend starting with a colon cleanse, followed by a 7-14 day juice fast… or even building up to 21 days. There’s some great information about juice fasting (and other types of cleanses you can do) in the Free Resources section of my website. You’ll often find that once the body is cleaner internally, the smell disappears even when you are sweating.
Bad body odour is something nobody wants to deal with! The best approach is to remove as many toxins as possible… alcohol, processed foods, toxic chemicals around your home, toxic personal products etc, and do some cleansing. Then focus on supporting the body properly with a healthier lifestyle moving forward.
As with most things, what’s happening on the inside shows up on the outside. So keep the inside clean and you’ll notice a big shift!
